RBF Treatment In Honolulu, HI

Introduction

RBF Treatment

dermal fillers-intro
There’s a term that has become widely accepted by society and even the medical community as a term for a person who seems to have a permanent scowl or, at best, appear in a consistent state of annoyance. We will just call it by the acronym that has become just as ingrained in the parlance of our time – RBF. These three little letters are often thrown around behind the backs of others, but for those aware they possess these qualities can damage their self-esteem. At PRP Center Hawaii in Honolulu, HI, Dr. S. Larry Schlesinger and his team have been helping so many women (and men) treat this unflattering appearance. Let us help you turn that frown upside-down with our simple and minimally invasive treatments!

What is RBF?

Resting B**** Face (RBF) is an unintentional facial phenomenon that affects thousands of people around the world. Although medical professionals are still not sure ‘why’ this happens, it has been confirmed that it is a naturally occurring condition generally influenced by genetics and environmental factors. While the term is typically used to describe a woman who looks mad or not “smiley,” after a revolutionary study using FaceReader technology, it has been determined that RBF is equally present in men.

Some of the more common attributes of RBF include:

  • Marionette lines: Downward lines that appear at the corners of the mouth, creating a “perma-frown” even when your face is relaxed.
  • Frown lines: Also called “11s,” they occur between the brows and are caused by the glabellar muscles in the forehead.
  • Puckered lips: Wrinkled, puckered lips can appear to be pursed and angry.

What Are the Benefits of RBF Treatment?

In addition to no longer looking like you have RBF, many of our Hawaii patients have cited the following additional benefits:

  • Reduced appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Increased facial volume
  • Non-surgical treatment
  • Results are long-lasting and immediate
  • Customizable
  • The procedure is safe and effective

What can be done to alter this look?

Now that we know this condition is gender-blind and not an active, expressive choice, what can be done to alter this look? Dermal fillers and neuromodulator injections are typically combined to treat RBF by reducing wrinkles and fine lines and providing additional volume in certain areas for a truly transformative treatment.

  • Wrinkle Relaxers: Popular neuromodulator injections, such as BOTOX, are used as a treatment for RBF by relaxing the facial muscles that contribute to the expression. These injections are typically administered to the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the mouth to help reduce the appearance of RBF.
  • Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers can add volume to the face, which can help reduce the appearance of RBF. Injecting fillers such as the Juvederm or RESTYLANE line into the cheeks, chin, or jawline can help create a more relaxed and approachable facial expression.
  • Facial exercises: In addition to injectables, your provider can recommend certain facial exercises to help strengthen the facial muscles and reduce tension to help alleviate the appearance of RBF.

Who are the best candidates for RBF Treatment?

Anyone who feels unhappy with their facial appearance, particularly a negative-looking resting face, is a great candidate for an RBF treatment in Hawaii. We expect our prospective patients to maintain realistic expectations, come in with a positive attitude toward cosmetic treatments, aren’t allergic to the injectable’s ingredients, and be in good general health.

If you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, this treatment may not be right for you at this time. Please feel free to schedule your consultation with Dr. Schlesinger, who can provide more accurate advice.

First Steps

What’s the First Step?

dermal fillers-what

If you’ve been told to “smile more” or are constantly asked “what’s wrong,” an RBF treatment at PRP Center Hawaii might just be for you. After scheduling your consultation, you will come into our relaxing practice and meet with either Dr. Schlesinger or one of our highly trained injectionists. They will examine your face and determine the problematic areas, discuss which product and technique will improve your appearance, and answer any questions you may have. You will also be asked about your medical history and lifestyle, so it’s important to be open with your provider so they can make well-informed decisions and avoid unnecessary complications.
If you agree with the treatment plan we create for you, we can administer your injections immediately after the treatment, or our patient coordinator can help you schedule an appointment for a time and day that better suits you.

What to Expect on the Day of an RBF Treatment

The treatment will be performed in our practice and, as mentioned above, can be performed immediately after your consultation.

First, Dr. Schlesinger administers a numbing agent to the target area to alleviate discomfort. A cold compress may also be used to numb the area.

Dr. Schlesinger will then administer specific amounts of the filler and neuromodulator using a fine needle. The exact treatment areas he injects will be discussed and confirmed during your consultation so there are no surprises. After the injections, Dr. Schlesinger will carefully examine the treatment areas, only adding and using what he needs to provide you with a happier but natural facial appearance.

You may be given an ice pack to apply to the treated area to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling. We may have you stick around about 10 minutes after your treatment to ensure you don’t have any adverse reactions to the injectables, but this will be at your provider’s discretion.

RBF Treatment Recovery

After your RBF treatment, you will be able to resume most of your regular routine, but there are a few things to keep in mind during the initial recovery period that will ensure long-lasting and satisfying results, such as:

  • Avoid touching or rubbing the treated areas for at least 24 hours after treatment
  • Avoid strenuous exercise and activities that increase blood flow to the face for 24-48 hours after treatment
  • Refrain from lying down for at least 4 hours after treatment to prevent the injectables from spreading to unintended areas.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol for 24 hours after treatment
  • Any swelling or redness at the injection sites should subside within a few hours to a few days

Swelling or soreness at the injection site can be expected but alleviated with an ice pack or an over-the-counter medication Dr. Schlesinger can advise on.
